Ten-Meter-Long Whale Strands Near Beach in Portugal
Lisbon – A whale of about 10 meters stranded near a Fonte da Telha beach, in Portugal’s Almada, according to the country’s maritime authority.
The animal was sighted near the shore around 9 a.m., after having approached the sand as in the passed hours, the same source said.
An attempt has already been made to take the whale back to the high seas, but without success. At the moment, the authorities are controlling the situation at sea, and on land, in order to keep the population away from the animal.
The Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) was alerted from the start, and advised to keep their distance to avoid stressing the animal.
