Tropical Storm in Philippines: Death Toll Reaches 172 – National Disaster Agency

Manila –  The number of deaths caused by the tropical storm tropical storm Megi, which devastated the central and southern part of the Philippine islands, has risen to 172, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 110 people remain missing, according to the NDRRMC.

Tropical storm Megi, called Agaton in the Philippines, dumped rains in the central and southern regions before and after it hit land on April 10, causing floods and landslides in several villages in Baybay City and Abuyog town in Leyte province.

The number of people affected by the natural disaster has surpassed 2 million.

The tropical storm left over 10,300 houses damaged, with 670 of them fully destroyed.
