Over 280 Tonnes of Illegal Bags Seized in 2021

Rabat – Over 283 tonnes of plastic bags were seized by customs services in 2021 compared to 56 tons a year before, the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxation (ADII) showed.

The bags were seized as part of the Customs commitment to the implementation of Law 57-18, amending and supplementing Law 77-15, on the prohibition of the manufacture, import, export, marketing and use of plastic bags, the ADII said in its 2021 Activity Report.

Customs seizures have increased by over 405% since the entry into force of the law. Control operations allowed to the discovery of several illegal manufacturing workshops and the confiscation of machinery and supplies for the production of the prohibited plastic bags.
