Tetouan: Intense Efforts Underway to Control Wildfire that Ravaged 90 Ha of Forest – Local Authorities

Tetouan  – Intense efforts are underway since Thursday evening to contain a fire that broke out in the Beni Ider forest which ravaged 90 hectares of vegetation cover so far, without causing any human loss, announced the local authorities of the province of Tetouan.

Ground intervention teams consisting of members of the Royal Armed Forces, the Gendarmerie Royale, the Auxiliary Forces, the Social Protection and Water and Forestry services, in addition to local authorities, agents of the National Promotion and volunteers from the local population are mobilized, the same source said.

Equipment and logistics have been made available, including fire tanker trucks, first response trucks, ambulances and other machinery, to extinguish the fire.

The Gendarmerie Royale mobilized four Turbo Trush aircraft and 12 air interventions were conducted by water bombers to put out the flames, according to the same source.

225 people from three villages have been evacuated to safer places. 70 houses were destroyed (60 completely and 10 partially) and 90 livestock died, according to an initial assessment of the damages by the local authorities.
