Morocco: Energy Bill Up by 51.9% in 2021

Casablanca- Imports of energy products have increased by 51.9% in 2021 (25.9 billion dirhams MMDH), according to the annual report of the Office des Changes (Exchange Office) on Morocco’s foreign trade.

This performance is the result of an increase in price and the volume imported, the Office said. Imports of gas-oil and fuel-oil, which posted the strongest growth, explain alone nearly half of the increase in supplies of energy products, it added.

Overall, the report showed a 24.7% increase in imports of goods to MAD 527.4 billion. However, in volume, they are down 1.1%.

In detail, imports of finished consumer products showed a 30% growth mainly due to the increase in imports of passenger cars (+MAD 5.9 billion), medicine and other pharmaceutical products (+MAD 5.5 billion), as well as spare parts for passenger cars (+ MAD 3.9 billion).

At the same time, imports of semi-products rose by 23.9%, mainly due to the increase in imports of plastic products (+MAD 3.2 Bln), ammonia (+ MAD 2.9 billion) and chemicals (+MAD 2.5 Bln).
