Sudan: Death Toll from Flash Floods Reaches 112 Since June
Khartoum – Floods triggered by torrential rains killed at least 112 people and injured 115 others since June, Sudanese authorities announced on Sunday.
In a statement, the National Council for Civil Defense said 4,944 homes collapsed and 49,096 others sustained partial damage.
Last month, Sudan declared a state of alert and emergency in six states of the country due to heavy rains and floods in Nile State, White Nile, West Kordofan, South Kordofan, South Darfur and Kassala.
Last week, the United Nations said nearly 250,000 Sudanese people have been affected by the floods and heavy rains in the country since June.
The rainy season in Sudan usually starts in June and lasts up to September, with the peak of rains and flooding observed between August and September.
