COP 27: Moroccan, Israeli Companies Ink Agreement to Produce Green Hydrogen in Morocco
Sharm El Sheikh – A strategic agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Agreement (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh (November 6-18), between two Moroccan and Israeli companies to produce green hydrogen in the Kingdom.
In a statement, the Moroccan company GAIA Energy indicated that an agreement was signed with the Israeli company H2PRO for the transfer, integration and implementation of the most efficient electrolysers in the world, in order to massively produce green hydrogen on the territory of the Kingdom.
It added that this agreement is significant for regional cooperation, Morocco-Israel relations and the positioning of the Kingdom of Morocco as a green hydrogen hub.
The two companies unveiled, Tuesday, the plans for their new partnership on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Conference, in the presence of Israeli Minister of Regional Cooperation, Issawi Frej, Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection, Tamar Zandberg, and Egypt and Maghreb Director at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lior Ben Dor, added the same source.
The purpose of this collaboration between GAIA ENERGY and H2PRO is to implement a pilot project on the Moroccan territory to produce a large capacity of hydrogen and green ammonia, using H2PRO’s electrolyser technology, starting with a capacity of 10-20 megawatts.
It also involves working on the development of the H2PRO system on the scale of several gigawatts on some projects developed by Gaia Energy, as well as working on the establishment of a Giga factory of electrolysers in Morocco, in order to produce the technology locally and transfer the know-how to Morocco.
