Rabat – The rate of professional collection of household waste has reached 95% in 2019 against 44% in 2008, a High Commission for Planning (HCP) report showed on Tuesday.

“In terms of achievements in 2019, the rate of professional collection of these wastes has reached 95% against 44% in 2008, while the rate of their burial reached 63% against 11% in 2008,” according to the 2021 National Report on “SDGs in Morocco in the context of the COVID-19.”

The country has worked to strengthen the legislative and institutional frameworks with the aim of improving waste collection, management and treatment systems, explained the report which assesses the impact of the pandemic on Sustainable Development Goals.

The recycling rate reached 10% against only 6% in 2015, noted the report that is based on studies and statistical surveys conducted by the HCP since the beginning of the health crisis.
