COP22: Patricia Espinosa Lauds HM the King’s Unprecedented Leadership

Marrakesh, 15/11/2016 (MAP) – Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Patricia Espinosa lauded the unprecedented leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, in a speech, on Tuesday in Marrakesh, during the high-level segment of the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), whose opening ceremony was chaired by the sovereign.

“YOUR Majesty, the leadership you are showing by hosting the COP22 is unprecedented. It is an honor to be here,” said Espinoza.

The UNFCCC official said the meeting is an occasion to think about means to accelerate action in favor of climate, underlining the vital need to make climate action the cornerstone for the transition towards a real sustainable development.

This change will not be an easy task as it involves difficult decisions and a wise leadership, she added.

“Those who responded to the historic appeal last year (for the Paris agreement) are now called upon to be at the forefront of this transformation,” Espinosa said.
