Marseilles, 28/10/2016 (MAP), The UN Conference on Climate (COP22), slated next November in Marrakech, will herald a change of mind in the international community’s and the different authorities’ relation with the issue of environment, said, on Friday in Marseilles, foreign minister and COP22 chairman Salaheddine Mezouar.

In a statement to MAP, Mezouar, who co-chaired with French peer Jean-Marc Ayrault the 13th meeting of the “5+5 Dialogue on Western Mediterranean”, underlined that the meeting was an occasion to inform the attending officials about Morocco’s preparations to host the COP22, assuring that Morocco is totally ready to ensure the success of this major event.

The meeting enabled also to discuss achievements made this year in terms of the fight against the impact of climate change, with the ratification of the Paris Agreement which will be enforced early November, said the minister.

This approach focusing on action was advocated by Morocco since the very beginning, he said.

The meeting examined the different regional crises, notably in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Sahel and Middle East, as well as means to counter terrorism and radicalization.

Set up in 1991, the body brings together Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.
