Morocco, EU Discuss Means to Step up Cooperation in Sustainable Investment

Marrakech – The means to strengthen cooperation in the area of sustainable investment were at the heart of a meeting held Thursday in Marrakech between the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli, and the executive vice-president of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis.

During this meeting, held on the sidelines of the 31st annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the two sides discussed the ways to further promote cooperation in terms of sustainable investments, targeting in particular green energies.

Speaking to the press following these talks, Mr. Dombrovskis underlined the importance of renewing commercial relations between the two parties, insisting on the interest of making new sustainable investments focusing in particular on green energies.

The EU official noted that the discussions also focused on the common project towards the “Green Partnership”, marked by the complementarity between the two parties, noting that it offers huge possibilities for cooperation in view of the great Morocco’s potential in terms of renewable energies.

For his part, Mr. Jazouli said that this meeting focused on current and future challenges, in particular the Covid-19 pandemic, the reconfiguration of global supply chains and the world energy map.

Recalling the close relations between Morocco and the European Union, the Minister highlighted the strong potential of the Kingdom in the sector of renewable energies, noting that the kingdom is positioned as a key player in this area.

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the 31st Annual Meeting of the EBRD, which runs through May 12 in Marrakech, brings together representatives of the 73 countries and institutional shareholders of the Bank, including Morocco.
