Morocco, Hungary Ink Partnership Agreement on Forest Sector Scientific Research Promotion

Meknès, 19/04/2017 (MAP) – Morocco and Hungary inked, on Wednesday in Meknès, a partnership agreement aimed at promoting the two countries’ scientific research in the forest sector.

The agreement, which was inked on the sidelines of the 12th Morocco’s International Agriculture Fair (SIAM2017), by the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (HCEFLCD) and the National Agricultural Research and Innovation Centre (NARIC) of the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, aims essentially at creating synergy and laying a platform to share scientific information between the two bodies.

The said agreement, which is based on the “Marrakech Action Proclamation for Climate and Sustainable Development”, adopted at the 22nd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is meant to develop and promote inter-institutional networking linked to improving adjustment capacities.

It is also aimed at strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change.

According to Abdeladim Lhafi, High commissioner for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, this agreement, which combines economic development and ecological balance, is based on three broad lines: fostering the resilience of forest ecosystems to adapt to global changes, upgrading forest ecosystems services, and developing tools of assessment and decision-making for sustainable management of forest resources and the fight against desertification.
