Renewable Energy: Morocco Has a Sustained Dynamic (Minister)

Agadir – The renewable energy sector is experiencing sustained momentum in Morocco, said minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rebbah.

Speaking Wednesday at the opening of an awareness workshop on: “Solar pumping: a lever for energy efficiency and sustainable development in the agricultural sector”, Rebbah recalled the multiple advantages of using green energy in terms of investment, employment, innovation, industry, entrepreneurship and scientific research.

Thanks to the breakthrough achieved in renewable energy, the minister added, Morocco is well on the way to targeting markets in Africa and internationally due to Moroccan expertise, major projects launched as well as financing and support mechanisms put in place.

For his part, director general of the Moroccan Energy Efficiency Agency (AMEE), Said Mouline, highlighted Morocco’s efforts to reduce energy bills and ensure rational use of energy, particularly in agriculture.

After stressing the need to raise awareness among stakeholders in the agricultural sector, Mouline reviewed the many partnerships forged by AMEE to guarantee energy efficiency, which is one of the major orientations of the new national energy strategy.

On her turn, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) commended Morocco’s efforts to develop the green economy and ensure energy efficiency, highlighting the Kingdom’s contribution to finding relevant solutions to sustainable development challenges.
