Twelve Deputies Represent European Parliament in COP22

Brussels, 30/09/2016 (MAP) – Twelve MEPs from different political groups will represent the European Parliament at the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held on November 7-18 in Marrakech, a European parliamentary source said Friday.

The delegation, which will be led by Chairman of the Environment Committee, Giovanni La Via, will follow the negotiations and will work with their peers on the objectives of the Paris agreement and the means to achieve them, the same source pointed out.

According to La Via (Italian Democrat-Christian MEP), the COP22 will launch the implementation process of the Paris agreement on climate.

“We will start the implementation process of the agreement. We expect to make significant progress on key elements of the text, such as an enhanced transparency framework and a mechanism to facilitate the implementation of the objectives”, said the MEP, also chairman of the EP delegation to COP21, in an interview published on the website of the institution.
