Blue Economy &Green Hydrogen, Vital for Morocco’s Sustainable Development Strategy (Minister)
Casablanca – Blue economy and green hydrogen are vital pillars for the sustainable development strategy of Morocco, a country with considerable potential in the fields, said Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka on Friday in Casablanca.
The Kingdom is therefore required to make the best use of its assets, mainly its vast coastline, its exclusive economic zone of 1.2 million square kilometers, its abundant fishery resources and its renowned ports, he stressed in a speech delivered on his behalf at the opening of the Scientific Conferences of the Hassania School of Public Works (EHTP), organized on the occasion of the graduation ceremony of the 50th class (2023-2024).
In this respect, the Minister noted that these maritime riches contribute significantly to the gross domestic product (3%) and create job opportunities for several hundred thousand people, which has led Morocco to launch diverse initiatives on the national, regional and local levels to protect and promote its maritime space.
As for green hydrogen, the Minister explained that the Kingdom, during the past years, has become a regional and continental leader in terms of renewable energy and aims to become an international leader in the green hydrogen economy.
He added that Morocco took a further step forward by publishing its first “Morocco Offer” for the development of green hydrogen capacity on its territory in March, setting out the criteria to be met by national and international investors to develop this sector.
