Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima: Agricultural Season Indicators Show Record Production
Tangier – The indicators for the current agricultural season announce a record production, said on Thursday, the Regional Directorate for Agriculture in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
The rainfall recorded since the beginning of the year have created favorable conditions to accelerate the cultivation of cereals and improve the condition of autumn crops, especially cereals and legumes, as well as sugar crops, said the Regional Directorate for Agriculture in a statement, noting that the various indicators announce a record production this year.
More than 344,000 hectares of cereals, 17,103 hectares of legumes, 59,900 hectares of fodder crops, and 6,926 hectares of sugar plants were cultivated, added the same source.
In addition, more than 36,000 hectares of vegetables were planted over 21,000 hectares during the period from September 2020 to February 2021, in addition to the 15,000 hectares scheduled for spring, whose completion rate exceeded 70% at the end of April 2020.
The Regional Directorate for Agriculture also underlined that the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region is characterized by an important diversity in the production of vegetables, in particular potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, green peas, beans, and turnips, in addition to melons, watermelons and red berries, as well as other spring products.
