COP22 Achievements Mirror Moroccan Presidency’s Active, Transparent Commitment, Steering Committee

Rabat, 16/12/2016 (MAP) – The achievements made during the Marrakesh talks as part of the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), held on Nov. 7-18, mirror the active, transparent and inclusive commitment of the Moroccan presidency to parties and communities, said the event’s steering committee.

Decisions adopted and initiatives launched during COP22, the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP12) and the 1st session of the Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA1) helped to mobilize and unite parties to accelerate the implementation of a global and irreversible climate action, the committee said in a statement on Friday.

The COP22 was the first of its kind with 35 negotiated results, a global agenda for climate action, numerous initiatives by civil society and the adoption by the Parties of the Marrakech Proclamation For Climate Action and Sustainable Development, the source added.

The COP22 / CMP12 / CMA1 tackled several issues related to climate change, such as finance, adaptation, capacity building and transparency, and resulted in the adoption by the Parties of the Marrakech Proclamation For Climate Action and Sustainable Development, the launch of the African Agriculture Adaptation Initiative (Triple A Initiative) to climate change and the creation of the Mohammed VI International Award for Climate and Sustainable development worth a million dollars, it added.
