Govt. Council Approves Morocco-Russia Fisheries Cooperation Agreement
Rabat – The Government Council, which convened on Thursday under the chairmanship of Head of Government Saad Dine El Otmani, adopted the bill N°77.20 approving the fisheries cooperation agreement between Morocco and Russia, signed on September 14, 2020, in Rabat and October 14, 2020, in Moscow.
The agreement, presented part of this bill by minister delegate to the minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, defines the principles of cooperation in the preservation and exploitation of fishery resources in Morocco’s Exclusive Economic Zone, said the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific research, government spokesman Saaid Amzazi, in a press release read at a press briefing after the Council, held through video-conference.
The text lays down the conditions for Russian vessels to operate in areas of the Atlantic coast where Morocco exercises its sovereign rights and/or which are subject to its jurisdiction.
It provides for cooperation in the areas of fishery scientific research, particularly in terms of programming and organization of scientific research expeditions necessary for the preservation of these resources and their rational exploitation, both within Morocco’s Atlantic fishing zone and beyond its borders, the Minister added.
The project also provides for cooperation in fishing techniques and technologies, fish processing technologies and aquaculture development.
