Flash Floods Affect 50,000 Australians in Sydney Area
Canberra- Around 50,000 Australians have been given evacuation orders or warnings after torrential rains caused a deluge in suburban Sydney, AAP news agency said on Tuesday citing authorities.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government had freed up 250 Australian Defense Forces, 100 of whom are on the ground and another 100 are on standby to assist flood victims.
“People on the east coast are doing it really tough at the moment and it is clear that the crisis is not over yet… There will continue to be flash flooding,” he told the media.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology warned that the risk of flash-flooding, landslips, damaging winds and hazardous surf continued for many parts of New South Wales even though the rainfall was expected to ease during the day.
