Mediterranean News Agencies Are Challenged More than Ever by Environmental Issues (MAP DG)

Marrakech 11/11/2016 (MAP) – Media institutions around the Mediterranean are challenged more than ever by the issues of the environment and the global ecology as well as their impact on the planet, stressed, Friday in Marrakech, Director General of the Moroccan news agency (MAP), Khalil Hachimi Idrissi.

The readership and the general public are now seeking environmental and ecological content on all media outlets to find credible answers to their concerns about environmental issues, added Hachimi who was speaking at the opening of the 2nd meeting of journalists from news agencies of the Mediterranean specialized in the environment, held on November 11-13 in Marrakech on the sidelines of the COP22.

Besides the challenge of climate, “our news agencies have to meet the challenge of adaptation to environmental issues,” noted Hachimi, emphasizing the need for the media to raise public awareness of these issues.

The task to provide concrete and effective responses to themes on environment is not easy because it requires expertise, organization and especially the means to be able to produce content that lives up to the ambitions and the importance of the theme, MAP DG said.

As part of its commitment to promoting the environment, MAP launched a site specializing in environmental and ecological information (www.mapecology.ma) he noted, adding that this initiative started by the creation within the agency of a service dedicated to the environment and sustainable development.
