UN Praises Morocco for its ‘Remarkable Leadership’ in Climate Action
Rabat – The United Nations Development System (UNDS) in Morocco hailed, Tuesday in Rabat, the “remarkable leadership” of the Kingdom in climate action for many years.
“I would like to congratulate Morocco, which has shown remarkable leadership in climate action for many years and is one of the few countries to have a NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) consistent with the goal of no more than 1.5°C warming, based on its fair share,” said the UNDS Resident Coordinator in Morocco, Sylvia Lopez-Ekra, during a roundtable meeting organized under the theme “After the COP26, what path for Morocco and its youth towards the ecological transition?”.
A view that the UK ambassador in Rabat, Simon Martin CMG, shared by expressing his satisfaction with the efforts of Morocco that “even after three weeks of the formation of its new government, has been present and has shown leadership in climate action”.
The meeting is meant to highlight initiatives led by young Moroccan leaders and influencers related to the environment and the green economy.
UNDS supports the participation of Moroccan youth to make their voices heard and to show their commitment and capacity to innovate and lead change in the face of the existential threat of climate change.
