Hydroelectric Sector to Boost Africa’s Human Development, Official

Marrakesh – The hydroelectric sector is a pledge to boost human development in the African continent, said on Tuesday in Marrakesh, Minister delegate for water Charafat Afilal.

Given its huge potential and the assets it offers, the hydroelectric sector can be, if developed, a pledge to boost human development in the African continent, said Afilal in the opening of the International Conference on Water and Energy (Africa 2017), held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, on March 14 to 16.

During the event, themed “Water Storage and Hydroelectric Energy in Africa’’, Afilal highlighted the status and the advantages of hydroelectricity in the development of the energy sector, highlighting this sector’s potential in Africa, with 14% of the world’s untapped hydroelectric power.

In this regard, she called for launching mega projects to enhance the development of hydroelectricity in Africa, namely the construction of water infrastructure as dams.
