COP22: Signing of Ministerial Declaration on Health, Environment, Climate Change

Marrakech, 16/11/2016 (MAP) – Ministers of Health and/or Environment of several countries, including Morocco, signed, here Tuesday on the sidelines of COP22, the ministerial declaration on health, environment and climate change.

The declaration is meant to recognize the links between climate change and its impact on health, the impacts of environmental degradation on health, the need to develop measures to protect environment and combat climate change in order to prevent public health problems.

This document aims to launch a global initiative on health, environment and climate change to foster better management of environmental and climate risks to health and promote low-carbon, climate-resilient, sustainable and inclusive development in a bid to guarantee good health and well-being.

The declaration calls on health and environment sectors to stimulate and increase the exchange of good practices, experience and technical expertise in order to strengthen health, improve health monitoring and environmental protection, as well as to invest the necessary resources and promote cooperation in this field.

The Declaration notes that protecting and improving health is an essential pillar of sustainable development and the response to climate change.
